As the Design Lead at ZEIL, I led the design and execution of the platform's UX and UI. Through thoughtful design decisions, we saw a 120 percent increase in applications, over 370,000 job searches, and more than 380,000 candidate sign-ups. Engagement also rose significantly across key parts of the platform.

Problem Statement

ZEIL originally launched as a mobile-first platform. However, we noticed that a slightly older demographic preferred to use laptops when applying and preparing for jobs. This shift in user behavior highlighted a major gap in our product experience. We needed to design and optimize ZEIL for desktop to properly support users and their workflows.

Business Challenges

  • Lack of parity between mobile and desktop experiences

  • Limited engagement from users who preferred a traditional job-seeking process

  • Insufficient application rates across key job posts

Our Product Users

Primary

These were the lifeblood of the platform. A big portion were students, recent grads, and people in their first few years of working life. They were looking for internships, entry-level, or junior roles, mainly in tech, marketing, and sales. What made them stick around was how simple the UI was, how fast they could apply, and how relevant the roles felt.

We noticed that while younger users were happy on mobile, a surprising number of slightly older candidates (late 20s to 30s) preferred using their laptops. They'd save jobs on mobile but do serious applying and prep on desktop. These users needed clearer navigation, more powerful filters, and a job board that felt professional but not overwhelming.

User Needs

  • Apply to jobs efficiently across devices

  • Preview resumes and company info before applying

  • Save jobs and come back to them later

  • Feel confident using a clean and consistent interface

  • Have trust in the platform's professionalism

What We DId

Search First Experience

We rebuilt the job search with advanced filters and fast results. The desktop layout lets users easily scan, sort, and compare job listings. Interactive filters make refining results quick and intuitive.

'For You' Page

We added a “For You” page with AI-driven job matches. Users see recommended roles based on their searches, preferences, and past actions. It’s a quick way to find fitting jobs while still allowing full control over manual search.

Landing Page Redesign

Because ZEIL was originally an app, users had to sign up and download it to try it out. The new desktop experience introduced a signed-out state, which helped improve SEO and allowed users to browse without immediately signing up.

The redesigned landing page played a key role, leading to a 15% increase in conversion rate. Once users signed up, our onboarding flow was highly effective, achieving an 89% completion rate. This smooth onboarding helped users quickly engage with the platform and start applying for jobs.
